About me

I have lived in Frankfurt for more than 40 years, 38 of them in Sachsenhausen – a district south of the Main River that is comparatively safe. But even residents of this district are affected at some point. At least, that has been my personal experience.

Burglaries are part of everyday life in Frankfurt – especially if you live on the ground floor. Our previous ground floor flat was broken into three times within a year. Since then, ground floor flats have no longer been an option for us. But even the upper floors are not safe: despite massive security bars, the door to our second-floor flat was pried open.

The audacity of some perpetrators is frightening. While the elderly couple who lived in the apartment below us were sitting on the balcony at the front of the apartment drinking coffee, the door at the back of the apartment was broken open. All of the elderly couple's valuables were stolen.

For decades, I was a staunch supporter of Frankfurt – and a staunch supporter of Sachsenhausen. But at the end of 2024, a violent crime in my family that could easily have been fatal shook my confidence in the safety of this city once and for all. Since then, I have been convinced that I must leave here as soon as my professional situation allows.

Why does this website exist?

I created this website to give young people who are considering moving to Frankfurt – whether for professional or personal reasons – a realistic picture of this city. Frankfurt undoubtedly has its strengths, but it also has problems that need to be acknowledged, especially the high crime rate. Those who have a choice should carefully consider whether they really want to live here and raise their children here.
